Ali - 50 something, enjoys a Jane Iredale makeover
As a fifty something, very busy working mum, I find that my make up has become staid and consists of very few products. I felt it was time for a makeover – Courtney and I chatted about what we were trying to achieve – which for me is generally a great big boost of confidence , together with a look which I could achieve myself at home. With a number of Award ceremonies coming up in my work diary, I thought that a more glamorous evening look was something which I should certainly be aiming at! Over to Courtney ....
At Seraphim we use Jane Iredale pure mineral based products, they are such an amazing company, and the products are so beautiful, fabulous colours and a lovely range of different skin options. Jane Iredale is the only make-up recommended by surgeons post reconstructive plastic surgery, such is the natural product base. You can use Jane Iredale even if you have the most sensitive of skin with true confidence, as every product is a real extension of your skin care.
Here’s how I achieved Alison’s evening look -
STEP ONE – Preparing skin
Before applying any make up, cleanse using a good quality cleanser such as Environ’s ABST cleansing lotion together with an ABST moisturiser. This will remove any debris and any unnecessary facial oils giving a smooth and clean base for your make up.
I applied ‘Smoother Fair Facial Primer and Brightener’ which helps to control skin oils. Even if you don’t consider yourself to have oily skin, the product helps to maintain an even skin tone, minimising the appearance of pores.
Having set the skin with the primer, I then used “Glow Time full coverage mineral BB Cream” using BB7 as a cover for minimising the appearance of pores and wrinkles, brightening the skin whilst smoothing. This product includes anti ageing properties controlling oil and damage caused by environmental conditions.
Setting the foundation is important, I used “Pure Press base mineral foundation – Golden Glow”. This pressed powder contains a SPV 20 and UVA broad spectrum. You can use this product on its own if you prefer a more natural look, however on our evening look for Alison I wanted to produce a matt finish.
The final touch on the foundation stage was applying the Jane Iredale “Balance Hydration Spray” which helps to normalise the skin, avoiding any shine coming through.
Contouring the face using “So Bronze 2 bronzer”, which I applied with a specific contouring brush. If you don’t have one at home, use your normal brush on an angle to gain a similar effect. The product was applied on the cheek hollows, each side edge of the nose and top of the forehead near the hairline. Take care to angle outwards from your eyebrows to meet the temples.
The benefit of countouring is to help define your features, shading can help make certain features slimmer, by using different colours.
I love blushers, and Jane Iredales “In touch cream blush”, using the Clarity shade is gorgeous. I applied it to the cheek bones and apple of the cheeks to give a subtle warm colour.
Eyebrows are really ‘big’ now! The “Bitty Brow kit” which contain a wax to tame and defined the eyebrows giving a base for the brow powder is great and contains a fabulous brunette shade which suits Alison’s natural skin tone. The kit is also available in blonde for lighter eyebrows.
A quick application of the Spray, set the blusher and eyebrows in place.
Working on the eyes to give a glamourous evening look I used “Pure Pressed Triple eyeshadow “ “Sweet Spot” which were shades of oyster and cappuccino.
24 carat gold is a shimmer powder which can be used on cheeks and eyes to give a shimmery glow to pick up evening lights. Strange fact – its also edible so can be used on cakes!! Mmm, must be good for you then!
Moving on to eyelashes, I applied Jane Iredale lash lengthening mascara in “Jet Black” to define and lengthen Alison’s eyelashes.
Finally to lips, which really do set off the face. Alison liked the idea of a gloss finish, so I used “pire gloss” lipgloss in Crabapple, gaving a super shine without the clogginess of lipstick, which is great for more mature skins.
Final spray application and voila – Alison is ready to knock them dead!!
“I loved this look, sophisticated and glamorous, without me feeling that I’m someone else! It’s very me” Alison Belton.
